Welcome to my Famous Five Pages
My name is Jon and I live in England, in the beautiful Cheshire countryside. Drifting back into the past, way back, thirty years or so in fact (goodness is that how old I am !! Well I certainly do not feel it,) I can recall the first time I read a famous five book
I had nothing to do. I was bored, nothing on the television worth watching, so I picked up the nearest book. I do not recall who the book belonged to,but I started to read it without even bothering to look at the cover !!
REALLY, Quentin, you are most difficult to cope with ! " said Aunt Fanny to her husband. The four children sat at the table, eating breakfast. Went the start of the book. Then it moved on to getting bicycles ready for a cycling holiday. Having a picnic in a country copse, cycling in moonlit leafy country lanes, ahh total bliss, until they bump into the baddies of course.
I looked at the cover of the book, to find out what this book was , FIVE GET INTO TROUBLE said the cover.
That was it I was totally hooked, and I am still pretty keen on them all these years later. I really do like the way the books describe the countryside, and nature. Picnics in little secluded copse's, cycling swimming and going exploring, all innocent fun that sadly has all long since gone.
I am at the moment going through all my old books, as I have not read some of them for quite some time. As I am reading them all over again, I am finding that there is quite a lot of little details here and there, that I do not remember in the story. As I am now re- reading them with a much more older mind, I find that some of the books, were not nearly so good as I thought.
My favourite books from the Famous five series, without any doubt has to be Five get into trouble , and Five on a hike together . I would most certainly put them on a level parr with each other, I would find it very difficult, to choose between them, as I found them both great books to read.
While I found Five go to Mystery Moor the book that I least liked.
I have been getting quite a lot of mail lately, and people ask where can they get Famous Five books from? So I decided to build a page and tell you a few places that I check out. You can see that page here places to get your Five books

| The children's favourite drink was Ginger Beer. It is often quoted that the children drank lashings and lashings of ginger beer. We all know this was never quoted in any of the books but it still seems fitting however. | The children always seemed to be eating loads of sandwiches. I suppose this convenience food was appropriate for them as they did do quite a lot of travelling about. |
Well we all know the five were quite greedy, the stories always had them eating and drinking large amounts. But I suppose it made the stories more enjoyable, and exciting. It is a good thing that the five burnt up all those calories, by running around trying to expose the baddies.
Question? Just what is it exactly that Aunt Fanny does with all her time? I mean she has a cook named Joanna who prepares all the meals. I am not quite sure if Joanna only works for the Kirrin family, when all the children are at home.
Then there is a Mrs Daly; this lady was mentioned in Smuggler’s Top. She apparently is a lady who comes up from the village to help Aunt Fanny during the day. What is it that this woman does to help ?. I presume to help with the cleaning maybe, but I do not believe Mrs Daly ever gets a mention again! Mrs Daly gets to say ( Why Mam, it’ll take weeks to set that right! Have you got on to the builders, Mam? )
Aunt Fanny only has to look after the children at term time, so would she really need all this extra help? On reflection, the way the books read, I would assume it was full time help that Aunt Fanny had.
So with all this help available to Mrs Kirrin (Aunt Fanny), I would love to know just exactly what it is this lady does with her time, when the children are at boarding school. There is no mention of her having a job? If anybody knows, you are most welcome to mail me and tell me.
Question? Where does Julian, Dick and Anne's parent's keep disappearing to? They do not seem to want to spend much time with them! I think this is a little odd, after all if their children go to boarding school they won’t see them, and when the children are over at Kirrin Cottage, that means their own parent's will never get much time to spend with them.
I notice that Julian, Dick, and Anne’s parents also have a cook, because in Five go off in a Caravan, their father mentions that they will give their cook a holiday when they go off on their own holidays.
