This is a really good site. I'm probably one of Blyton's youngest fans, having finished the entire Famous Five series by the time I was seven. I've been enjoying them time and time again ever since. But I have to agree in that Five On A Hike Together is the best. What I really wanted to ask was this; have you seen the new children's Disney Channel series Famous Five: On The Case? I watched it once and was horrified at what I saw. Not only have the makers behind it renamed the Famous Five and made them entirely different, they also have no mention of Enid Blyton in the credits! Still, congratulations on the site. It's great!

This is a great site. I love the Famous Five and was really interested by your views on the books. Please add more comments on the ones you've not discussed. I would say the first 10 are best. The first book I read was the Famous Five And You at school almost twenty years ago. It was a ‘game book’ (and not really part of the series but it was great so don’t dare criticise!) but I’ve not seen it again since. However I do still have my childhood collection of the series and re-visit from time to time. Good work here and please add more.

I like Famous Five. My fav series of all is Five Get Into Trouble and Five Go on a Hike Together. I like George and Dick the most. The character I don't like the most is Anne. The supporting character I like the most is Jo and William(Five go to Mystery Moor)

Just had to add... my cousin and his 10 year old daughter came to visit and she brought her book which she has nearly finished with her.You guessed! five on a hike She was gobsmacked when i said, two trees, gloomy water, saucy jane and Maggie knows too!!! She quizzed me about all the books i could remember as she has read most of them and i was surprised how many i remembered as it's over 30 years since i read them! Admin reply: Hi Michael, great little tale. I suppose her books were the modern edited versions.

Having just read your comments Jon, i have to agree with you totally. My favorite was also five on a hike together which was the first book i read on my own! I would still rate it as one of the best books and remember it fondly along with five fall into adventure.Like you, the secret seven never really did it for me, but the "mystery" series with fatty and Goon etc i would rate on par as the famous five Admin reply: Hi Michael, have to agree with you about five on a Hike, great story. I found it along with five get into trouble, amongst the best in the series.

I read all twenty one books, one after the other when I was about ten. Like others, I too saw no flaws in the stories. It seemed so credible to me that these children didn't need grown ups in their world. Unfortunately all of those hardback books got stored in a damp attic and had to be thrown out years later. Who knows, I may re-read them!

Enjoyed the website and look forward to seeing more of your reviews. The books were great as a 10/11 year old - they took you into an exciting world you wish you could have joined. We even named our dog Timmy after the one in the books as he bore an uncanny resemblence to the pictures in the books! I thought Enid Blyton struck exactly the right chord with the books, certainly at the time I was reading them (late 1960s), and feel she was harshly criticised. Like you, one of my favourites were 'Five get into Trouble' but also 'Five have a Wonderful time'. I also agree that, years on, that somethings are funny; like the complete lack of contact Julian, Dick and Anne's parents had with them - selfish pair! and Julian appears to be 12 going on 18 and Anne is 10 going on 30! My sisters and I laugh about these things now, but at the time we were avid fans and loved the books for what they were. They were an important part of our growing up.

I Think Taht Your Comments On The Books Are A Bit Rude Because If It Did Not Have Those Parts In It It Would Be Dead Boring. But I Like All The Famous Five My Favourite Are Five Go On A Hike Together, Five On Kirrin Island Again, Five Get Into Trouble And Five Go Of To Camp Thanks Admin reply: Hi Aliy thanks for your message. We are all entitled to are own thoughts and they are just my thoughts! PS my own writing is done in fun, and tongue in cheek..
